English Minors

For students that want to take coursework in English but perhaps aren't able to fit a double major into their plans, we offer two different minors that require 18 and 15 hours of coursework respectively. These minors fit nicely into the General Elective hours offered by many majors and let you tailor your skillset during your time at the UofA. We have two options: a minor in English and a minor in Rhetoric and Writing Studies. There is currently no minor offer in Creative Writing.

Minors in English or Rhetoric and Writing Studies can be an excellent tool to supplement your existing degree or improve your employment profile.

The Minor in English (18hrs)

18 hours of English (ENGL) courses including at least 12 hours numbered 30000 or above (excluding ENGL 00001; ENGL 00101; ENGL 10103; ENGL 10203; ENGL 10303). Students are welcome to reach out to the department for consultation about appropriate courses.

The Minor in Rhetoric and Writing Studies (15hrs)

Students must complete 15 hours from among the following courses1: 15
Advanced Composition
